Musings of a life nerd…
Recent Goings-on Dave 9, May

Wow! It’d been way too long since I’ve updated this. My musings ended up being unfinished scribbles on paper that I never got around to revising and publishing. I’ve narrowed my focus now, putting my learning energy in to history. I’ve been listening to a lot of Hardcore History, and I’m finding that as a subject, history encompasses everything. It’s also a great inspiration for stories, looking at time periods like the apocalyptic scenarios of the black death. The rise and fall of past civilizations is a good starting point for the kind of fiction I’m interested in writing, sci-fi/speculative apocalyptic future stories.

On the writing front, I haven’t accomplshed anything. I have way too many things going on, so much so that I need to limit them.

In any case, I’m currently putting together some musings that I promise I will post in the next week. I have a few ideas, but essentially its a matter of choosing one and exploring it.

Who Am I? Dave 27, February

I’ve felt the desire lately to begin putting my thoughts in to words. Not just any thoughts, but my deep reflections and speculations about life, existence, people, the world, the universe. The more I think about it, I see two possible reasons for this desire.

Been a While Dave 11, February

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

Oh, right, its February. I forgot. So, I’ve put together this cool feature on my site where I can email in my blog entry from my Blackberry (which I’m doing right now) and it automagically posts to my blog. Spiffy, huh?

A lot has happened in the last few months. Unfortunately, my interest in writing has fallen off of the face of my brain. Its still lingering around somewhere, but its definitely not as prominent. In its place is probably a strange candidate: cars.

I finally got around to getting my license, and signed up for an Auto Mechanics class in night school. Its just a short course, more for hobbyists (like myself) than people looking to become professional mechanics. This is just a hobby for me, though who knows what could happen down the road (pun intended). Computers started out as a hobby, didn’t it? And look where I am (software developer in the film industry for those who didn’t know).

So, yes, I am venturing in to the realm of the automobile. I have a number of small repairs to do on the car (Angie’s) and have already done a bit of exploring. I’m hoping that at some point the car becomes mine, so that I may pursue some interesting projects, such as a car PC. More on that later.

I haven’t been very active on my blog. Well, not active at all actually. But, with this new found interest. I think I will blog more regularly about my venture. As I discover and learn new things, I shall share it with you, my few (if any) readers, for no reason other than I feel inspired to document my progress.

Stay tuned!

An Experiment in Diet Dave 29, April

Being medicated for life for an illness that you can’t figure out is kind of annoying. You have certain symptoms, and the medication rids you of those symptoms. But who wants to be dependent on chemicals for the rest of their life?

After taking 20mg (double the over-the-counter dose) of Reactine (or, as I prefer, Life Brand Cetirizine Hydrochloride) for many years in order to prevent myself from being physically miserable, I decided it was time to try a new approach.

Six Word Stories Dave 1, April

One of the members of my writing group at work sent out this link today. They asked some top writers to come up with a story in six words or less. Some of the ideas are pretty funny and silly, while some are kinda serious. Well, at least as serious as you can get in six words.

My top favourite would have to be:

God to Earth: “Cry more, noobs!”
- Marc Laidlaw
